Our story

It's cute, cliche, and very Christian
I wrote this story to go on the "Our Story" page of our wedding website. It doesn't necessarily capture everything about it, but taking the time to sit down and write it all out for the first time was a memory I'll never forget. And since The Knot deletes its wedding websites after 1 year, I didn't want to lose access to that memory. RIP to theknot.com/perfectly-palomares.

It all started at Bible study.

...but really.
I know. Could we get any more Christian cliché?
Neither of us was actually looking for a relationship, but God just laughed and put us together anyway.
Shout out to Kyle who immediately asked Katie after the first Bible study Gabe had come to (I'm serious, y'all. This guy), "So is he husband material or what?" After a prompt dismissal of even the concept of dating someone younger than her, Katie proceeded to move on with her life as usual...
By the time Christmas Eve Eve rolled around, we had both individually come to the conclusion that we liked each other. (Don't ask who liked who first...we really don't know. Which probably wasn't helped by Katie being in denial for an unknown period of time...)
Shoutout to Noah for having no
idea we liked each other at this point...

Granted, we had barely figured that out. We just wanted dinner after the Christmas Eve service...
Plus, we got to experience the added adventure that Katie created by accidentally lowkey getting Gabe locked out of where we had left his car...but it was fiiinne. He got it back.
Then, he called me bud.
Sometime after the Christmas break, we were sitting at my (Katie's) apartment watching a movie, and this man had the GALL to call me BUD.
Overlooking the number of questions that one three-letter word caused in Katie's mind at the time, it's also where our main nickname for each other came from: Buddy.
Once we started officially dating, Katie almost immediately started calling Gabe buddy as a callback to the irony and annoyed-ness around that one time Gabe called her bud. Now, it's just cause we cute and enjoy being each other's best buddies.
BEST BUDDIES FOR LIFE.
So many stories and jokes and laughter and lessons have happened between 1/21/21 and now, and we can say with confidence that God has been present throughout our entire relationship. Especially as we look forward into entering into the covenant of marriage: as we individually seek first God and his righteousness as he has brought and continues to keep and grow us together. He is good. He is faithful. And we want to learn from, with, and for each other for the glory of God and for the good of our neighbors. He has continually sanctified each of us to be Christ to each other and others better, challenged and grown each of us through the ways we're different, and ultimately has made it clear that he is with us as we enter into seeking him together for the rest of our lives. We can't share enough how excited we are to officially begin living life with one another, but also how thankful we are for each of you in our lives. Our relationship has been marked from day one by the love and faithfulness of our community, and we're honored that you're going to celebrate our union with us and continue to laugh with us, support us, and challenge us.
NOW LET'S PARTY!
